Our first full day of orientation has come to a close but it certainly was a full one! To begin our morning the students were challenged to look at 1 Thessalonians and the great faith that is described there. There was much discussion about how this faith can be developed and shown this summer while on Operation Barnabas. We then took the opportunity to introduce the support leaders for summer and learn the expectations and guidelines for this summer. Our administrative leaders shared a little about their specific tours this summer and the students were excited to hear about the churches they might be visiting this summer! Children’s songs could be heard throughout the church as we practiced them so that they can be used when ministering to children. There was much joy and excitement shown on the student’s faces as they learned and practiced these fun and silly songs! Ed Lewis joined us and took the opportunity to teach the students Acts 11:23-24. Within a few minutes the students had memorized our theme verse for the summer!
The students were able to hear from Ed about outreach training following lunch. Specifically he spoke about the different worldviews that are in our world today and how we can have conversations with those people. He shared many stories from Urban Hope and it is exciting to see what God is doing there through that ministry. After, we all headed to choir and it continues to sound better and better with every practice! These students have some incredible talent in regards to singing and it is exciting to watch them learn these songs that will be used for ministry this summer. After choir the students were able to learn different activities that can be used during carnival events this summer. Face painting, puppets, and balloon animals were the topics of the day!
Meals here at Lititz Grace have been fabulous and we have loved every bite thus far! We have much to be thankful for as we always have a full plate before us and never go hungry. Conversations at dinner were ones of laughter, excitement, joy, and new friendships! City Life also joined us at Lititz tonight for dinner so we spent some time in prayer for them as they prepare for their 15 day ministry. Following dinner Ed spoke more about outreach and this time the students were able to practice having conversations with one another. They were challenged to practice asking questions and developing a conversation from there. After another choir practice we headed into a Challenge Hour to finish off the night. Ed shared with us about authority and the importance of submitting to whatever authority structure is in our life. These authority structures in our life have been placed there by God and therefore we need to willingly submit to them!
These students are having fun making new friendships and learning many different activities that they will use for ministry this summer! Continue to pray that God would open the hearts of these students as God works in and through them. Please also be praying for the ministry that will happen once we being our tours. Thank you for all of your prayers thus far!
