Today was a unique day of ministry for our team as we were split up in many different groups in different areas around Columbus. The students went directly from host homes to the locations of manual labor. A few groups were able to travel to different homes to do simple yard work and cleaning in hopes of encouraging the homeowners. Another group of students traveled to a local elementary school to spend time playing games with students who attend a free lunch program. Tyler, Mikayla, and Kenzie led many different games with a large parachute and there were many giggles coming from the gym! Once the children left from elementary school we traveled to a home from the church to eat our lunch and spend time getting to know the family.
Following lunch the entire team met up at the home of Tanya, a woman from the church, where Pastor Sean and his wife gave us a short devotional. They were able to challenge our team in build relationships with others and sharing Christ’s love with them through our relationships. Pastor Sean shared the vision of Encounter Church and because they are a very relational church it was a different vision compared to what our students are used to hearing. Hearing the vision of a church plant challenged our students to think about disciples building disciples who build disciples. This concept is something that we hope and pray our students take home with them!
After a great time of encouragement and relaxation with Pastor Sean this afternoon, we headed back to Jefferson Park to do a park program again for the women and children in the drug rehab facility. Since we returned to the same location, we were able to continue building relationships with the people we did last night. Drew was able to share the gospel with a boy that he had met last night and we saw our students play games with children they met last night! Tonight during the program we were able to share Scripture with these people through speech choir. Matt was then able to stand up and present the gospel in a very clear and concise manner. Following the gospel presentation, Kate was able to explain it further and see two individuals accept this free gift.  We celebrate at the realization that these people have been saved by Christ’s death on the cross for the sin in their lives and have walked from death to life!
Tomorrow is our last full day of ministry and we look forward to seeing what God has in store for us. Please join us in praying that we would see God use our team in a large way as He opens up the doors of opportunity!
