OBI 7/7 Early Morning-Fantastic Day

Our second Sunday here on the island began with a 5:30am meeting before we headed up for breakfast, then off to Caticlan Island for a 7am service with Pastor Peter. We did our choir song, our speech choir and pantomime. Jared shared what God has been teaching him from the Word and Tammie sang a song.  We enjoyed a message by a Southern Baptist Missionary that has been traveling the islands holding services. We were back on Boracay by 9:45 and...

OBI 7/6 Awesome Construction crew

Today, Saturday, began with a walk up the hill to the Agape School where we were once again working construction.  This team is such hard workers and put forth 100% all the time.  It is hard work, but they don’t complain, they just stick to it!  They are awesome! (the Filipinos think so too) Today a group of us moved a huge pile of rock while the rest mixed concrete and poured a footer for the next part of the wall we have been working...

OBI 7/5 Ati Village Chapel

On our second Friday morning, Coach Clod told us that today we made history by being the first chapel that the MASA school at the Ati community had ever held. The school is only two years old and has 4 grades.  They decided it was time to begin a weekly chapel program and asked if we would be the first. We did our puppets, sang and danced with the children and Reba told a story that one of the teachers translated.  We concluded the program with...

OBI 7/4 American Holiday in Philippines

Happy Forth of July! Our Thursday began with the news that all the teams were being taken on an island hopping adventure.  We suited up and headed for the beach and our boat. Coach Clod was our guide as we moved across the waters to our first snorkeling spot, dancing to the music and having a ton of fun. When we reached our first spot, those who had snorkeled before jumped right in, while others took a bit of time getting used to the idea of...

OBI 7/03 OBI 'Rocks' Construction

I realize that my blog writing is a bit like a timeline and not so much like a journal, and for that I am sincerely sorry.  The days are long and by the time I get the opportunity to write, I am ready to drop. (Yes, I am old.) Our Wednesday began with a bang.  Literally, just after midnight last night, there was a storm that blew through and the thunder was so loud it rattled the windows.  Power was out, which didn’t technically matter at...

OBI 7/02 Many hands make the work go faster

Our Tuesday began with another good breakfast prepared by the ladies at the Vista House.  Then all three teams, ours and two other teams here from California, headed up to Agape School for construction.  Many hands made for a bit of confusion at the beginning, but as we all got into our rhythm, we got lots of work done and it is so rewarding to see the progress being made and to know just how much they appreciate the help so that they can...
