OBI- July 11- Ministering at the Masa Ati School

This morning, we woke up a bit later than usual to a once again empty house. We ate some breakfast then headed to Panay for the day. We first lead chapel at the Masa Ati School, where we were able to conduct our first real program involving puppets. We taught them a few songs like F-A-I-T-H and The Father Loves Me; they absolutely love to dance along. We performed a skit called Joe and the Wannafights, which the kids got a kick out of while still learning the story of Jonah. The puppets, on the other hand, were a bit of a struggle. Our speakers were not the loudest, so Jade and some other team members had to sing along loudly. Our stage was actually just a sheet that was held up by two teammates; this stage was knocked over countless times by the lovely Anne Ateca. But, the children didn’t even care because they were so mesmerized by the puppets flailing in the hot, sticky, Filipino air. We ended Chapel hearing the kids recite Bible verses and singing worship songs. It is incredible to watch the light of Christ shine in and through the hearts of these precious children and teachers. The team then posed for some chaotic yet adorable pictures with the children and staff from the school. Lunch was not yet ready so we played a hula-hoop relay game for a while. When the lunch was finally ready, we helped serve it to the kids and sat with them for a bit. It has gotten to the point where the kids know us by name when they see our faces; this is an enormous blessing and gives us all so much joy. These children are a bigger blessing than any one of us could’ve ever imagined. Christ is using the people in the Ati Village to teach us thankfulness and the beauty of simplicity.
We then ate lunch as a team and headed to work in construction. We dug up dirt from around the concrete slab that our team and the California team had the opportunity to pour. It was extremely hard to maintain a servant’s attitude during this time due to the difficulty of the work. By the grace of God, our hearts began to change as we sang songs of praise to the Lord. It was a time of worship and team bonding, which was much needed.  After about two hours, we headed down the hill for our feeding site. There, we were able to sing songs, play games, and color pictures of the Bible story that was told with the children. It then came time for the food to be served, which I (Kate) had the opportunity of doing with the Ati women. This was the highlight of my life because God plopped me down right in the middle of their lives and their home to serve and love these women and children.
After a long day in Panay, we loaded the boat to head home. The rest of the night was full of fellowship and fun, playing Celebrity, getting milkshakes from Jonah’s, and screaming at the top of our lungs out of the Jeepney. God is so good and has shown us all His amazing grace throughout this trip. Please be praying for strength to endure the long days and encouraging attitudes as we work alongside one another. We love you and are praying for you!
P.S. We love you Mom & Dad
P.S.S Don’t worry, we love you too Bob and Deena. CARABAO J
Sincerely,
Your lovely Anne and Kate
