Florida – July 15 We Don't Stop For Hitch Haikus: A Poetic Reflection On Our Day Of Travel
On the road again
Gas exhaust; exhausted kids
OB travel day

Keep on traveling
Signs, cars, trucks all speeding by
Carry on, blue bus

*snap fingers*

Much more road ahead
Fast traffic; kids fast asleep
Legs get tight, cramped, numb

Zaxby’s – time for lunch
Any food you can think of…
Jokes! Only chicken

*snaps*

Back on to the bus
Only stop for restroom breaks
And for gas, diesel

Dark clouds; storm clouds… Rain
The wipers go “swish, swish, swish”
On our Barna-bus

*more snaps*

Read Bible and pray
Sixty minutes – time with God
Craving that Scripture

Seats made for children
Students short – they get good rest
Students tall – good luck

*still more snaps*

The home stretch: patience
Student asks, “Are we there yet?”
No… No… Again, no

After a long day
The church slowly comes in sight
Could it be? Please, please!

*many more snaps*

Tennessee! We’re here!
Road behind and work ahead
Tomorrow… we start

*snaps*
*silence*
*fín*
